Welcome to NACN Lab
We are a neuropsychology and applied cognitive neuroscience laboratory based at the Department of Psychiatry, the University of Hong Kong. NACN Lab is led by Professor Raymond R.K. Chan, focusing on neuropsychiatric disorders and their risk factors, specialising in schizophrenia spectrum disorders and related disorders. We now extend our scope of interests to transdiagnostic clinical and subclinical populations.
We are a multidisciplinary group of scientists dedicating to exploring the neural mechanisms underlying behaviour and cognition. Our research aims to formulate a better understanding of neurocognitive deficits observed in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders, especially in schizophrenia spectrum disorders. In the multidisciplinary field of combining cognitive neuroscience, affective neuroscience, and social cognitive neuroscience, our lab aims to uncover insights that improve diagnosis and treatment of cognitive and neuropsychological disorders, fostering innovative solutions and enriching the understanding of the human brain.
We study distinct neurocognitive performances, particularly in attention and executive function, and everyday life cognitive errors in healthy people, at-risk individuals, clinical patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders and related neuropsychiatric disorders with various methodologies.
Multiple research tools are used to look for convergence and complementarity in NACN Lab. We have self-report checklist for screening, computer-based experimental tasks for cognitive behavioural impairment assessments, and brain imaging scans. Behavioural experiments are usually combined with brain-imaging methods with spatial (structural and functional MRI) and temporal (ERPs) resolution. We also adopt animal models, psychopharmacological approach and genetic related analyses to further explore potential endophenotypic markers in neurological and psychiatric patients.
A more detailed description of our research projects can be found here. We thank for your interest and welcome to connect.
Postdoctoral scientists and students are encouraged to work independently and cooperatively on relevant questions of their own interest. If you are interested in joining, see opportunities here
